Brewers 4, Cubs 3: Carlos Gomez homered and drove in three runs and Logan Schafer squeezed in the winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning as host Milwaukee continued its dominance over Chicago.
Schafer pushed home the game-winner with a perfect bunt against Justin Grimm (0-2), whose difficulty fielding a sacrifice bunt earlier in the inning helped set the table. Aramis Ramirez walked and Gomez singled to start the ninth, and Grimm's error on Scooter Gennett's sacrifice bunt loaded the bases.
Gomez put the Brewers ahead with a sacrifice fly in the second and tied it at 3-3 with a two-run blast - his career-high 20th - in the seventh. Jim Henderson (5-5) worked around a leadoff double in a scoreless ninth for the win.
Both starters pitched well for seven innings, as Cubs right-hander Jeff Samardzija allowed three runs on five hits and struck out eight and Milwaukee right-hander Marco Estrada gave up three runs on four hits with seven strikeouts.
Chicago didn't manage a baserunner until Starlin Castro led off the fourth with a single, but it got to Estrada for three runs in the seventh. Junior Lake led off with a double and later scored on Ryan Sweeney's sacrifice fly before Welington Castillo ripped a two-run shot for a 3-1 lead.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Samardzija surpassed 200 innings pitched and 200 strikeouts, the first Cubs pitcher to do so since Ryan Dempster in 2010. … Brewers RF Norichika Aoki tripled in the sixth for Milwaukee's major league-best 42nd three-bagger. … The Brewers have won 35 of 50 meetings over the past three seasons.
